SPRINGFIELD – Saint Louis capitalized on a productive offensive attack to claim the 1-0 non-conference victory over the Missouri State women's soccer team Wednesday evening at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.
Â
The Billikens wasted little time in putting offensive pressure on MSU (5-2-1), firing six shots in the opening 22 minutes.
Kaitlin Maxwell stepped up in-goal, collecting a pair of saves to keep the match scoreless through the first.
Â
Emma Skornia provided the only scoring chance for MSU, launching a shot towards bottom center that Saint Louis' goalie hauled in for the save during the final 10 minutes of the first period.
Â
Multiple Saint Louis (5-3-1) shot opportunities throughout the first and second periods ultimately led to a Billikens' goal, as Anna Lawler found the net for the opposing side in the 53
rd minute for the 1-0 lead. The Billikens threatened again later in the second, but a Saint Louis foul on Maxwell erased a potential insurance goal.
Â
The Bears stingy defense limited Saint Louis' on-target scoring opportunities to five, but they were unable to match an efficient Billikens' offense. Maxwell finished the night with four saves.
Â
MSU wraps up its non-conference schedule at Omaha on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.
