OMAHA, Neb. – An Omaha own goal in the 30
th minute boosted the Missouri State women's soccer team to a 1-0 shutout win in its non-conference finale Saturday at Canigila Field.
Three different Bears (6-2-1) launched shots in the opening 21 minutes. Back-to-back MSU attempts from
Kayleigh Putnam and
Olina Einarsdottir fell wide while
Jordan Eickelman's opportunity a few minutes later was blocked.
A Bears' corner kick opportunity in the 30
th minute turned into a goal after an Omaha (1-6-1) defender failed to clear the ball after it landed inside the box. Putnam provided MSU with the finishing touches, flicking it in the direction of the opposing defender.
MSU struggled to find scoring chances, landing only four shots in the road contest. Once again, the Bears defense shut down the opposing side's offensive production, keeping Omaha scoreless despite their eight shot attempts.
Kaitlin Maxwell collected four saves and recorded her fourth shutout of the season.
"Credit to our team for finding a way to win," said head coach
Rob Brewer. "Playing three games this week left the team a bit ragged but they battled and finished non-conference play strong."
