Three Swimming Bears Garner Wins on Day Two of MAC Championships

OXFORD, Ohio – A sweep of the swimming events and a relay win highlighted the second day of competition for the Missouri State men's swimming and diving at the Mid-American conference championships at the Corwin Nixon Aquatic Center.
 
After winning four out of five events, Missouri State captured the lead for the majority of the night, but would fall to second with 323 points.
 
Miami (OH) outpaces the Bears by a mere three points, and Southern Illinois rounds out the top-three teams with 214 points.
 
Ball State and Evansville round out the list with 126 and 117 points, respectively.
 
Newcomer Pawel Krawczyk started the win streak for the Bears, earning the first-place time of 4:20.67 in the 500 freestyle. Fellow teammate Antonio Thomas paced Krawczyk for the runner-up spot, while Minki Kang and Sebastian Odent finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
The five top-eight finishes in the 500 freestyle helped push the Bears into first-place, where they would hold the lead for the remainder of the night.
 
Senior Artur Osvath claimed Missouri State's second victory with his decisive win in the 200 IM, clocking in at 1:45.91. Thomas Heye also found a spot on the podium with his fourth-place finish.
 
In a spectacular finish, Lucas Paloschi garnered the Bears' third consecutive win, taking the 50 freestyle by the slimmest of margins. His time of 20.02 beat out the runner-up by a millisecond and secured his spot at the top of the podium.
 
Blair Bish would garner first in the 50 freestyle B heat to finish ninth overall.
 
After taking the runner-up spot in the first two relay events Monday night, the Bears got revenge in the 200 freestyle relay, beating out Miami (OH) with a time of 1:19.58. This was the Bears' second-straight win the relay at the MAC Championships.
 
On the 1-meter diving boards, Michael Claunch and John David Spence placed on the podium with 282.60 and 234.95 points, respectively.  
 
"I liked the momentum our team had today," said head coach Dave Collins. "We were able to sweep the swimming events and we need to show up tomorrow ready to go."
 
Championship action will continue Wednesday with prelims at 9:30 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m. The events will include the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and the 400 medley relay.
