MSU Women in Eighth after 36 Holes in Nevada

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Paced by Rachel Johnson's 36-hole total of 160, Missouri State sits in eighth place after two rounds at the Jackrabbit Invitational, held at the par-72 Boulder Creek Golf Club here Monday.
 
Johnson (Sr., Anderson, Ind.) is tied for 15th place in the field of 72 players, while the Bears sit 38 strokes behind tourney frontrunners South Dakota State and Xavier in the 12-team competition.
 
Missouri State (331-325—656) currently ranks ahead of ninth-place Oklahoma City (662), North Dakota (663), North Dakota State (667) and Cal State Bakersfield (691) after two rounds, and is just one stroke behind seventh-place UMKC (655) and five strokes behind sixth-place Wichita State (651).
 
The top five teams are co-leaders South Dakota State (618) and Xavier (618), Cal State Northridge (639), Northern Illinois (641) and High Point (650).
 
MSU freshman Abby Cavaiani (Wales, Wis.) had the Bears' top round of the opening day, firing a second-round 79 to end the first day tied for 22nd (83-79—162).
 
Also competing for the Bears on Monday were Allison Bray (tied for 33rd), Bridget Schulte (t49th) and Faith Belmear (t62nd), along with individual competitors Ashley Childers (t49th) and Brooke Newell (71st).
 
Missouri State will look to improve during Tuesday's final 18 holes while hoping for better playing conditions than the windy landscape facing the field on opening day.
