Bears Season and Career Records Bested at Gorilla Classic

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Missouri State track and field team grasped five top five finishes along with multiple personal and season bests, during the final day of the 4th annual Gorilla Classic, held on the campus of Pittsburg State, Saturday.

Taking the 60-meter dash title, Taryn Smiley matches a career record and sets a new season best with a 7.50 time in the finals.

Triple jumper, Jamilah James extended her career best mark to 12.66m to take the top spot in the event, breaking the meet record on her first and third attempt.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Chicago Bains earned fifth place and a new career best time of 8.67.

Namibia Clavier marks down a season best 57.04 in the 400-meter run, finishing in eight place.

The Bears took home three of the top seven places in the 800-meter run. Edna Dar placed second with a season best 2:15.89. Kayla Fallis (2:16.91) and Madeline Saville (2:17.59) received fifth and seventh place respectively, with Saville reaching a new PR.

The Bears will have a week off before heading to the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Championship, hosted by Northern Iowa on February 23-24.
