Track and Field Bears to Battle at Gorilla Classic

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State track and field team heads into their final tune up before post season action with the Gorilla Classic, held at the Robert W. Plaster Center – Harvey Dean Track in Pittsburg, Kan. The two day event will begin at 4 p.m. Friday with the qualifying heats of 60-meter hurdles, while Saturday's festivities will start at 11:05 a.m. with the 3,000-meter.

Keeping Track of the Bears
  • The Bears have competed at the Gorilla Classic for the past four seasons. Last year Madeline Saville earned first place in the 800-meter run, marking a 2:18.32 time to earn a new personal record.
  • Last week at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, MSU set multiple career and season records, led by Taryn Smiley and Jamilah James.
  • The Bears are set to send 24 athletes to Pittsburg for the two day meet, started off by the Olivia Ott in the qualifying meets of the 60-meter hurdles on Friday at 4 p.m., while Mercedes Robinson, Shelby Palmer, Renae Buschling and Adyson Delaney are set to kick off Saturday's activities in the 3,000-meter run at 11:05 a.m.
  • A new era in Bears track and field has begun, with interim head coach Jordan Fife taking the reins, along with assistant coaches Carmelita Jeter and Jake Brydson.
  • Fife came to MSU in 2014 and has been the Bears head cross country coach for the past five seasons, while also serving as an assistant track and field coach.
  • MSU enters the indoor season picked fifth the Missouri Valley Conference pre-season poll.
