Final Results
GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Missouri State men's golf team finished in fifth place in their spring opener here Monday at the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club.
MSU posted a final-round 289 to match its impressive second-round total and finish the 54-hole event at 286-289-289--864. The Bears entered the final round just four strokes behind tournament leader Elon. However, eventual champion UAB (846) rallied on the final day with a remarkable 271 final round to win the event by 13 strokes. Elon (859) was second with UConn (861), Loyola (Md.) (862) and Missouri State (864) sitting in the top five spots in the 17-team field.
Missouri State seniors
Adam Fisher and
Kory Franks also claimed individual honors with Fisher tying for seventh place and Franks tying for ninth. Both standouts fired identical 72 rounds on the final day to finish with scores of 213 (+6) and 214 (+7), respectively.
Also representing the Bears,
Jack Knoesel and
Brad Carpenter both tied for 48th place (222), while
Lukas McCalla (224) tied for 62nd. Loyola's Evan Brown (67-68-73--208) won individual medalist honors in the 99-player field.
Coach
Neal Stafford's Bears host the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate, March 11-12, at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, as they continue their spring campaign with their only home event.
