VALPARAISO, Ind. – Boosted by a trio of top-30 finishes, Missouri State women's cross country earned a fifth-place finish at the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon at Sunset Hill Farm County Park.

The Bears collect their second top-5 finish in the past three seasons, scoring 146 points in the five-kilometer race. Loyola, who was tabbed the frontrunner in the pre-championship poll of conference coaches, went 1-2-3 to secure the MVC title.
"Today was a day that's tough to prepare for because of the conditions, but that goes the same for everyone out there," said head coach
Jordan Fife. "We certainly ran well enough for us to hold on to where we were picked to finish, but we were capable of a little more today."

Grace Breiten paced the MSU squad with a 5K time of 18:59.6 to place 18th among the 79 Valley runners. The junior from Chesterfield, Mo. has been the top-finisher for the Bears in five of the six meets this season.

For the third straight meet,
Edna Dar was the second MSU runner to cross the finish line as the sophomore finished 24th at the 19:16.8 mark. Following closely behind Dar,
Erica Wollmering earned her second consecutive top-30 finish at the conference meet, running a 19:22.9 for a 29th-place finish.

Adyson Delaney and
Shelby Palmer closed out the scoring for the Bears. Delaney posted a 19:40.6 to finish 38th while Palmer secured the 41st slot with a time of 19:55.0.

Up next for the MSU cross country squad is the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships which will be held in Stillwater, Okla. on Nov. 15.
