SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State women's cross country returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 5 when the Bears compete in the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. at 10:40 a.m.
Â
The University of Arkansas plays host to the five-kilometer race that is held at Agri Park and will feature a new race format this year. Due to the large number of teams competing, the meet will be split into two separate races with MSU being assigned to the first heat of the women's race. MSU will be one of 18 Division I programs running in the 28-team race which is slated to begin at 10:40 a.m. on Saturday.
Â
Coach
Jordan Fife's Bears are coming off a team victory at the Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo. on Sept. 21. MSU placed three runners in the top-25 to earn the Bears' first team title since 2013.
Â
"Coming off the meet in Joplin gives us a confidence boost heading into Saturday", said Fife. "From where our fitness is at and being able to come in a little more rested, we feel we can carry over some of that momentum." Â
Â
Grace Breiten highlights the 14 runners that the Bears will send to Arkansas on Saturday. Â She has finished in the top-15 in her two previous races at the Chile Pepper Festival, earning a 10th-place finish during her freshman season in 2017, followed by a 13th-place finish in last year's race.
Â
Senior
Jordyn Capra will be racing for her fourth time at the Chile Pepper Festival, recording her personal best course time of 18:07.2 for a 16th-place finish in 2017.Â
Edna Dar will look to continue her stretch of top-20 finishes as she placed ninth at the J.K. Gold Classic on Sept. 7 and 17th at the Southern Stampede on Sept. 21.
Â
"We're focused on being our best, person-to-person, regardless of what the competition looks like", added Fife. "We have to control what we can control and run to the best of our ability."
Â
MSU's October grind continues with its first 6k race of the season at the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 12:15 p.m. in Terre Haute, Ind.
