SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State women's cross country travels to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete in the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11:15 a.m. (CT).
Â
The six-kilometer race is hosted by fellow Missouri Valley Conference team, Indiana State, and will commence at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. With 65 Division-I women's teams scheduled to race Saturday, the Pre-National Invitational provides a preview of the NCAA Championship course which will be held in Terre Haute on Nov. 23.Â
Â
The meet on Saturday serves as the final regular season tune-up for MSU before the MVC Championships on Nov. 2. The Bears are following up a 12th-place finish at the Chile Pepper Festival on Oct. 5, paced by
Grace Breiten, who finished 33rd out of 270 runners with a 17:28.3 mark in the five-kilometer race.
Â
MSU will send seven runners to the Pre-Nationals, including its top-5 scorers on the season. Breiten has been the first Bear to cross the finish line in three of the team's four races this season. In her most recent six-kilometer race at the 2018 NCAA Midwest Regional, Breiten finished with a time of 21:32.4 which ranks 10th-fastest in program history.
Â
Erica Wollmering and
Edna Dar look to continue their strong 2019 campaigns with both runners finishing in the top-3 in three races for MSU this year. Wollmering is set to run in her sixth six-kilometer race as a Bear, posting her personal best mark of 21:55.9 at the 2017 NCAA Midwest Regional.Â
Â
Junior
Shelby Palmer and sophomore
Adyson Delaney have scored in all four races for the Bears this season. Both runners recorded personal best times at the Chile Pepper Festival with Delaney running 18:21.7, followed by Palmer with a time of 18:27.2 in the five-kilometer race.
Â
Up next for Missouri State is the 2019 MVC Championships, hosted by Valparaiso on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Valparaiso, Ind.
