Soccer Bears Draw Double Overtime Clash With Mercer

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State men's soccer team draws 1-1 with Mercer, after a double overtime encounter, Friday afternoon at Shea Stadium.
 
The first 45 minutes of action went by with 11 shots by the Bears with two on goal. MSU held Mercer to just three shots in the first half.
 
Leading the Bears offensively, Josh Dolling connected on goal to start the second half. Fifty-five seconds into the period, Dolling lined up for a penalty shot, after Mercer was called for a foul off of a corner kick. Dolling was able to get the ball around the defenders for his third goal of the season.

The Bears defense held Mercer down for the next 30 minutes before giving up the tying goal in the 72nd minute to Kobe Perez.
 
The match went into overtime with a total of five shots between the two squads, but neither team could find goal to force a decision.
 
The Bears recorded a season high 18 shots, led by Dolling with seven. Missouri State's defense held Mercer to 12 shots with two on goal.
 
The Bears begin a three game home stand with a match up against Santa Clara on Monday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
