Golfers 10th After First Day in St. Louis

The Missouri State men's golf team sits in the middle of the pack after the first day at the Derek Dolenc Invitational in suburban St. Louis. The Bears shot 299-289--588 on Monday (Sept. 24) and are in 10th place in the 17-team field at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill.

The senior threesome of Brad Carpenter, Adam Fisher, Kory Franks led the way for MSU on the first day, all posting 147 totals, five over par, that placed them in a tie for 31st place. Carpenter shot 77-70, while Fisher had 75-72 and Franks 71-76.

Junior Lukas McCalla is tied for 45th after shooting 76-73--149 and senior Jack Knoesel posted 77-74--151 and is tied for 56th. Freshman Carter Lee shot the Bears' lowest score and is tied for ninth after shooting 76-65--141 while playing as an individual.

Host SIUE leads with 18 holes to play after carding 283-283--566 in the opening 36 holes. The Cougars are three clear of Omaha (569) and four in front of Bradley (570), with UT Martin (573) and Tennessee Tech (576) rounding out the top five.

Tuesday's final round is slated for an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start.
