NORMAL. Ill. – Forward
Jordan Eickelman's goal combined with a double-digit save count from goalkeeper
Kaitlin Maxwell was not enough as the Missouri State's women's soccer team (6-6) fell to Illinois State, 2-1, here Saturday afternoon.
Missouri State's lone goal of the match came from Eickelman at the nine-minute mark, as she sidestepped the goalie and launched it into the opposite post to give the Bears the 1-0 edge.
In the following minutes, the Bears threatened again as
Kayleigh Putnam registered her first shot of the contest, but Illinois State's goalkeeper Smith nabbed the save.
The Redbirds (6-4-2) found the goal at the 19-minute mark to knot the score at one apiece. Both teams continued to bombard the net, but nothing would connect as the score remained 1-1 heading into intermission.
After another shot attempt from Putnam was blocked, Illinois State's Shaina Dudas slipped one past the goalie to give the Redbirds the 2-1 advantage.
The Bears were unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the contest, falling 2-1 in their first conference match of the season.
Maxwell had another stellar performance collecting 10 saves on the afternoon. This is the second time Maxwell has registered a double-digit count this season.
Missouri State will close its road swing with a trip to Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 29 slated for a 1 p.m. start time.
