JOPLIN, Mo. – The Missouri State women's cross country team jumps into a second place finish (140 points) at the Southern Stampede. The five-kilometer race saw three top-25 individual finishes from the Bears at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.

"Another solid effort today to get us in to the top two sports," head cross country coach Jordan Fife said. "Scoring all divisions last year had us well over 200 points and today we were 140. We just finished up a hard training cycle and we're looking forward to being a little fresher next week at Arkansas."

Grace Breiten produced a fourth place finish after running a career best 5K time of 17:38.2, marking the 13^th fastest 5K in program history.

"Grace ran another great race and is starting to understand how good she can be," Fife said.

Jordyn Capra recorded a 5K personal best time, finishing in 16^th place at 18:05.0. Paityn Howat marked a 22nd place finish running a 18:14.9 race, while Mercedes Robinson also ran a career best, 18:53.4 race, finishing in 45^th place.

"Jordyn and Paityn had solid runs as well and definitely have a lot of room to keep improving," Fife said.

Erica Wollmering (18:59.8), Edna Dar (19:05.5), Madeline Saville (19:13.6) and Shelby Palmer (19:33.5) took 56^th, 61^st, 67^th and 100th place respectively.

"Several other key runners had improvements of 30 seconds or more from this meet last year, so we feel good about where we're headed."

The Bears be back in action next weekend as the travel to Fayetteville, Ark. to compete at the Chili Pepper Festival Sept. 22.
