Durnin's Early Goal Propels Soccer Bears Over Omaha

Box Score | Season Stats | Follow

SPRINGFIELD – Newcomer Anna Durnin found the net early to boost the Missouri State women's soccer team (4-3) to a 1-0 victory over Omaha here Friday night.

From the jump Durnin was hot offensively, taking two shots within the opening five minutes. While the first fell wide, Durnin's second attempt from 20 yards out connected in goal giving the Bears the 1-0 advantage.

Later on in the opening period, it looked as if Durnin would score again but the shot landed just right to hit off the post. The Wentzville, Mo. native would finish the night with four of the Bears' eight shot attempts.

"Getting the goal in the first half gave us great momentum," said Head Coach Rob Brewer. "We took advantage of our chances and, all in all, it was a solid effort."

Missouri State's defense shined holding the Mavericks scoreless for the entire 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Kaitlin Maxwell hauled in four saves, including a game-saving nab at the 85-minute mark to seal the shutout. Omaha (0-4-1) challenged Maxwell and the Bears with seven corner kick opportunities, but coach Brewer's squad was up to the challenge, stifling any Maverick scoring opportunities.

Missouri State head out on the road visiting UMKC on Sunday, Sept. 2 with a start time slated for 1 p.m.
