SPRINGFIELD -- The Missouri State women's cross country team opens its 2018 season Saturday morning with at the J.K. Gold Classic, hosted by Wichita State University. The four-kilometer race will take place on the Raft Golf Course in Augusta, Kan.
Missouri State head coach
Jordan Fife enters his fifth season as Missouri State's head cross country coach and welcomes four newcomers along with 14 athletes who competed last year for the Bears.
J.K. Classic Highlights
The Bears will send 10 runners to the season opener, including
Emily Yaeger and
Shelby Palmer who are making their MSU cross country debut.
Grace Breiten, who earned 13th place at the 2017 MVC Championship, claiming honorable mention All-Missouri Valley Conference honors, after running a 17:58.33 5K returns for her second cross country season at MSU. Other returning competitors include
Jordyn Capra,
Erica Wollmering,
Paityn Howat,
Mercedes Robinson,
Madeline Saville,
Kayla Fallis and
Lindsey Biesemeyer.
The Bears have four regular-season meets this season before the MVC Cross Country Championship on Oct. 27 in Peoria, Ill. Following the season opener in Wichita, the Bears will hit the trails at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo. on Sept. 15.
