CAPE GIRARDEAU – An impressive defensive performance from goalkeeper
Kaitlin Maxwell, paired with a second half goal from
Kennady Orlick propelled the Missouri State women's soccer team (3-0) to a 1-0 win over Southeast Missouri State Tuesday night.
The win signaled Head Coach
Rob Brewer's 200
th win at Missouri State. Brewer is currently in his 23
rd season at the helm of the program, and has served as the head coach since the program's inception in 1996.
Maxwell countered a barrage of shots from the Redhawks (0-2), racking up six saves on the night. Four of those came during the opening half as Southeast Missouri State launched seven shots with none of them finding the net.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half with the teams going into the intermission even at 0-0.
Missouri State tightened their defense on the Redhawks in the latter half only allowing two shots, both resulting in saves for Maxwell.
Orlick provided the Bears with another deciding goal at the 70-minute mark to put them up 1-0. She previously had a deciding goal in Missouri State's home opener against Western Illinois last Thursday.
Southeast Missouri State (0-2) was unable to get a shot off in the remaining minutes, sealing the Bears' victory.
The Bears return home to face Little Rock on Friday, Aug. 24 at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
