Overtime Heroics from Eickelman Help Bears Edge Past Tulsa

Box Score | Season Stats | Follow

Tulsa, Okla. – A 18-yard rocket into the middle of the net from sophomore Jordan Eickelman in the closing minutes of overtime solidified a 3-2 comeback victory for the Missouri State women's soccer team against Tulsa Sunday afternoon.

The victory marked the first time Missouri State (2-0) had defeated the Hurricanes in a decade with their last win coming in 2008.

The opening half favored Tulsa as the Hurricanes scored a pair of goals to head into intermission up 2-0.

Missouri State would flip the script in the latter half beginning with Eickelman launching a 10-yard shot into the lower left corner, assisted by Grace Heenan, to put the Bears within 2-1 at the 47th minute.

Nearing the end of regulation, junior defender Olina Einsarsdottir came up with the header off a corner kick to tie the game, 2-2, in dramatic fashion at the 78-minute mark. The goal was Einarsdottir's first at Missouri State.

Despite being outshot by Tulsa in the second half it was Kaitlin Maxwell's stellar defensive performance with nine saves, five occurring in the latter half, that proved to be the difference maker. The total broke her career high record of eight that she had against St. Louis last season.

Both teams notched one shot during overtime but the Bears would be the ones to net the winner as Eickelman connected from 18 yards out to secure the comeback win. Her two goals was also a career high.

"Despite being down 2-0 on the road our team did not give in and came back for a huge win," said MSU head coach Rob Brewer. "We are ready to rest up and get on the road to face Southeast Missouri State on Tuesday."

The Bears continue their road trek with a stop at Southeast Missouri State (0-1) on Tuesday, Aug. 21 starting at 6:30 p.m. For all the latest information on the Missouri State women's soccer team, visit MissouriStateBears.com or follow @MSUBearsWSoccer on Twitter.
