SPRINGFIELD – A late first half goal from newcomer
Kennady Orlick lifted Missouri State over Western Illinois, 1-0, in its 2018 women's soccer season opener.
Both defenses kept each other at bay with a total of nine shots being exchanged throughout the opening half. Orlick had the deciding shot with 45 seconds remaining in the first as she dribbled past a defender and connected from five yards out to score the lone goal of the match.

Kaitlin Maxwell tallying two saves.
Eights Bears notched shots in the home opener with six occurring in the first and three during the latter half to total nine. Junior
Ashley Coonfield led the Bears with two shots, both of them on goal.
The Bears edged past Western Illinois with four corner kicks compared to the Leathernecks' three.
Severe weather delayed the game at the 82
nd minute mark and was eventually called after 30 minutes, solidifying the Bears' victory.
