ST. LOUIS – Nine Missouri State student-athletes received recognition from the Missouri Valley Conference for their academic and athletic excellence, the league office announced Monday, (May 21). Over 120 student-athletes were named to this year's MVC Scholar-Athlete team.
Jordyn Capra (3.99 GPA, Animal Science, So.) earns outdoor honors after finishing seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the championship. Â
Jessica Allen (3.98 GPA, Biology, Sr.) adds to her academic honors by taking indoor and outdoor honors. Allen earned eighth place in the indoor championship 5,000-meter. In outdoor she took second in the 10,000-meter and fifth in the 5K.
Erica Wollmering (3.87 GPA, General Business, So.) finished in sixth place in the outdoor 1,500-meter to earn scholar athlete respects.
Paityn Howat (3.76 GPA, Elementary Education, So.) took seventh place in the 800-meter during the outdoor championship.
Olivia Ott (3.68 GPA, Dietetics, Jr.), the multi-eventer took fifth in the pentathlon during the indoor championship, before a third place heptathlon finish in outdoor.
Grace Breiten (3.55 GPA, Special Education, So.) earns indoor and outdoor honors. Breiten took seventh in the 3,000-meter at the indoor championship, as well as fourth place in the steeplechase during the outdoor meet.
Brittany McPike (3.37 GPA, General Business, Sr.) threw a fourth place weight throw during the indoor championship.
Asha Cave (3.28 GPA, Accounting, Jr.) placed four times at MVC Championships earning indoor and outdoor honors. Cave finished in fifth place in the 60-meter and the 200-meter dashes during the indoor meet. She also took third in the 100-meter and fourth in the 200-meter at the outdoor championship.
Sidne' Williamson (3.25 GPA, Sport and Park Administration, Jr.) placed in long jump during both championships this season. Williamson took sixth during indoor while she improved to third place during the outdoor meet.
To earn Missouri Valley Conference scholar-athlete honors, a student-athlete must finish in the Top 8 of the conference championship or in the Top 3 or a relay event (indoor or outdoor meet) and carry a 3.2 cumulative grade point average. First-year transfers are not eligible and student-athletes must be a sophomore in athletic and academic standing.
Cave and Williamson will represent the Bears at the NCAA West Prelims in Sacramento, Calf. May 24-26
