Track and Field Bears to Compete at Gorilla Classic

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State track and field team will enter their sixth meet of the 2017-18 indoor season at the Third Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic, hosted by Pittsburg State University, on Friday, Feb. 9 through Saturday, Feb. 10. The two day meet will start off with long jump at 2 p.m. on Friday, competition will continue on Saturday at 11:25 a.m. with the 3,000-meter run.

Keeping Track of the Bears
  • The Bears have competed at the Gorilla Classic all three years of its existence. In 2017 Georgia Richardson matched her school record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.42-meters.
  • Richardson broke he own Missouri State school record in pole vault at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational (Feb. 10). She cleared a 3.50-meter bar to finish tied for 10th.
  • Brittany McPike broke the MSU program record in weight throw for the second time in a week at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. McPike tossed an 18.32-meter weight throw attempt to earn ninth place in the meet.
  • Finishing the mile run in 5:03.11 Paityn Howat improved her personal best to finish the race in sixth place. Howat is expected to run in the 800-meter dash on Saturday.
  • MSU also earned fourth place in the 4x400m relay with a 3:47.56 time at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. The team was comprised of Kadisha Francois, Divina Henry, Asha Cave and Isa Videler. The same grouping will be running at the Gorilla Classic.
  • The Bears have competed in five events so far this season racking up 11 individual first place finishes.
  • At the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational last weekend the Bears logged four personal bests and two new school records. 
  • Director of track and field and cross country, Ronald Boyce, is in his 22nd season at the helm. MSU enters this season picked fifth the Missouri Valley Conference pre-season poll.
