St. LOUIS -- Missouri State's Emily Gartner became the fourth different Lady Bear this season to earn a weekly Missouri Valley Conference honor when the league named her its Newcomer of the Week in women's basketball on Monday afternoon.

Gartner finished with consecutive career high scoring totals in two road games last week, averaging 14 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 70 percent from the floor. 

Friday at UNI, the 6-foot-4 center from Hiawatha, Kan., shot 5-of-6 from the floor for 10 points, five boards, an assist and a steal. Sunday, the redshirt freshman posted 18 points on 9-of-14 shooting, adding eight boards, two blocks and an assist in 21 minutes at Drake.

The Lady Bears (12-10, 8-3) sit alone in second place in the MVC standings with seven games to play, and host Bradley (11-11, 5-6) at 7 p.m. Friday in the annual Play4Kay pink game.
