Bears Start Off Strong at MVC Indoor Track and Field Championship

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Missouri State track and field team earned seven top-eight finishes during the first day of the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championship, here on Saturday.

The Bears started off the day with the pentathlon earning six total team points. Chelsey Linton recorded a new personal best 3,616 points to come in fourth place. Olivia Ott also saw a new personal record (3,406 points) to finish in eight place.
 
Breaking the MSU program record for the third time this season, Brittany McPike tossed an 18.53-meter weight throw. McPike finished the event in fourth place and earned the Bears five team points.
 
Jamilah James and Sidne' Williamson medaled for the Bears in the long jump. James finished in fourth place with a new career best 5.97-meter leap. Finishing in sixth place Williamson jumped a 5.89-meter mark earning a new PR.
 
On the track Jessica Allen ran the 5,000-meter run in 17:42.18, to take home eighth place.
 
The Bears ended day one with the distance medley relay. MSU's team was comprised of Jasmine Crawford, Isa Videler, Paityn Howat and Grace Breiten who captured fifth place on a 12:17.41 time.
 
Missouri State sits in fourth place with 24 team points after day one. MSU will start the second day of the MVC Championship with triple jump at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
