SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's tennis team fell 5-2 to Northeastern State on Saturday at Cooper Tennis Complex.

"We started out a little flat in doubles and could never dig out of it," head coach Mallory Weber said. "We had some moments in singles that were very positive and I could see the competitive fight.

"Matches like today prepare us for what we will see in our conference matches."

The Bears (3-2) doubles duo of sophomore Alye Darter and freshman Ellie Burger collected a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, but NSU captured the doubles point after winning at No. 2 and No. 3 matches.

Junior Fati Khamissi tied the match for the Bears with a 6-0, 6-4, victory at the No. 4 singles match over Betka Gambarova.

Burger also collected a 6-2, 6-3, victory against Chantal Nosievic at the No. 5 singles match.

MSU pressed NSU, but were unable to pick up any other singles match victories.

Missouri State returns to action on Friday, Feb. 16, when they take on Alcorn State in Conway, Ark., at 3 p.m.
