SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's tennis team defeated Southeast Missouri State, 4-3, Friday night at Cooper Tennis Complex.

"I'm proud of the way we fought throughout this match," head coach Mallory Weber said. "We worked really hard all week in practice on our movement and our fight and that showed tonight."

The Bears (3-1) took a 1-0 lead into the singles matches after sweeping all three doubles matches. Junior Phoebe Boeschen and senior Anelisse Torrico Moreno, now 5-7 as a doubles duo, got MSU rolling with a 6-2 victory over Kseniya Zonova and Kelly Sicha in the No. 2 doubles match.

Sophomore Alye Darter and freshman Ellie Burger move to 8-4 on the year as a doubles pair after they defeated Oleksandra Doroshenko and Alessandra Maya Thompson, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles.

Singles matches were a back-and-forth affair. Fati Khamissi put the Bears up 2-1 after she collected a 6-1, 6-0, win at No. 4 singles over Maja Lundell. Burger, at No. 5 singles, came from behind to defeat Maya Thompson in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, to regain the lead for MSU.

Boeschen sealed the victory for the Bears with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, win over Anais Emelie in the No. 3 singles contest.

Missouri State returns to Cooper Tennis Complex on Saturday to host Division II opponent Northeastern State. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
