SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State's women's cross country team enters postseason competition with a trip to the NCAA Midwest Regional in Peoria, Ill.

MSU is one of 35 Division I teams and six Missouri Valley Conference squads entered in the six-kilometer meet. The women's race begins at 11 a.m. at the Newman Golf Course on Bradley's campus.

Sophomore Grace Breiten has paced the Bears this season, leading the squad in all five meets this year. Breiten marked a fifth place finish two weeks ago at the MVC Championship, where she ran a 17:21.67 5K, good enough for a new personal best, sixth fastest 5K in program history and All-MVC honors.

Along with Breiten, Jordyn Capra, Paityn Howat, Erica Wollmering, Edna Dar, Jasmine Crawford and Mercedes Robinson are expected to compete for the Bears in Peoria.

The top two teams from each of the nine regional races will advance to the NCAA Division I Championship races -- Nov. 17 in Madison, Wis. The remaining 13 at-large teams are selected by the NCAA Division I Cross Country Subcommittee. By being one of the top four regional individual finishers, not on an advancing team a runner will become one of the thirty-six individuals to automatically qualify to the national championships races. Two additional individuals are selected at-large by the committee.

Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Minnesota are the favored women's teams in the Midwest Regional. A year ago, Missouri State finished in 20th place at the regional held in Ames, Iowa.
