SPRINGFIELD – Senior Brooke Prondzinski's first goal of the season came at the perfect time, helping the Missouri State women's soccer team (8-6-2, 2-1-2 MVC) secure a crucial 1-0 win against Evansville at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium Wednesday night.

It was the 13th career goal for the two-time All-MVC performer from Olathe, Kan.

Emma Skornia threatened with two quick shots early in the contest to set the pace for the home squad. The Bears continued to take shot attempts with six in the first half, but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities as both teams headed into intermission scoreless.

Prondzinski's game-winning goal came at the 56-minute mark after she found herself in open territory and rocketed a shot into the middle of the net to put the Bears ahead 1-0. Evansville was unable to overcome the setback as the Bears completed their sixth shutout of the season.

The Bears' defense caused problems for the Purple Aces, limiting them to four shots in the shutout. Goalkeeper Kaitlin Maxwell came away with two saves, including a game-saving grab at the 83-minute mark.

Missouri State had a spectacular offensive performance, outshooting the Purple Aces 15-4. Ashley Coonfield led the efforts, accounting for six of those 15 shot attempts.

"We had a good team performance," said head coach Rob Brewer. "Hopefully we can keep it up and win the next two regular season games."

The Bears continue their homestand at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 21, where they will face Loyola for senior day. MSU then concludes the regular season Oct. 25 at Drake.
