Valparaiso, Ind. – For the second consecutive match, the Missouri State women's soccer team (7-6-2, 1-1-2 MVC) finished in a draw, tying conference rival Valparaiso 1-1 here Saturday night.
The Crusaders made it onto the board at the 22-minute mark as Valparaiso's Ava Porlier crossed from right and shot from 13 yards out to go ahead 1-0.
Goalkeeper
Kaitlin Maxwell saved four shots during the opening half to hold Valparaiso to one goal heading into intermission.
Early in the second half,
Jordan Eickelman would knock it in off a free kick from
Jacqueline Baetz to even the score 1-1 at the 59-minute mark. The goal marked her fourth of the season, tying her with
Kennady Orlick as leading scorer.
Missouri State would tighten its defense for the remainder of the contest, limiting the Crusaders to six shots for the remainder of the contest.
The Bears tallied 10 shots in the second half, with
Brittney Robinson,
Ashley Coonfield, and
Anna Durnin threatening in the closing minutes of regulation, but were unable to find the net as time expired.
In two overtime periods, the Bears would combine for five shots, four in the second overtime, but would fall just shy, solidifying Missouri State's second straight tie of the season.
Missouri State will return home to Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 19 to face Evansville at 6 p.m.
