CONWAY, Ark. – Head coach
Rob Brewer picked up his 250
th career victory as the Missouri State women's soccer team shut out the Central Arkansas Bears, 1-0, Friday evening at Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex.
Â
"For me 250 wins is just a number," Brewer said. "It's nice to make it to that milestone, but I'm more excited for the team and the performance they put on tonight. Overall, we defended the ball well and did a nice job of staying in control of the match."
Â
Missouri State came out of the gates on a mission as senior
Mary Disidore registered two shots within the first four minutes of the match. After another MSU scoring attempt, Disidore fired a shot in the 11
th minute from 22-yards out and gave the Bears the only goal they needed to win the match. Disidore's first goal of the season marks the second of her career and the first time the Bears have scored in an opening half this season.
Â
"Mary's goal was top quality and it was great to see her step up," Brewer noted. "We know she is capable of scoring and she did an excellent job putting the ball in the goal tonight."
Â
Making her third start as the MSU goalkeeper,
Kaitlin Maxwell (1-2-0) stood as a brick house for the Bears, earning her first collegiate win and shutout. The freshman surpassed her single-game record of five saves, bringing in a total of seven stops on the evening.
Â
"Kaitlin did a great job tonight," added Brewer. "Seven saves is a busy night and she gave us a solid performance. Our defense has really matured over the last two weeks and it's good to see our freshmen growing over such a short period of time."
Â
Scoring Summary
- 11:14 – Missouri State, Mary Disidore – cleared across the box and finished to the back post from 22-yards out.
