SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Despite a get-ahead goal from junior
Brooke Prondzinski, two Arkansas State penalty kicks proved to be too much for the Missouri State women's soccer team as the Bears fell to the Red Wolves, 2-1, Friday night.

Brooke Zimmerman fired the first shot of the 2017 season in the second minute of the match, but missed just left of the goal. Five more Bears registered shots, while Arkansas State goalkeeper Kelsey Ponder brought in three of her four saves of the night. After the first 45 minutes of play, both teams entered halftime scoreless with six shots a piece.

Missouri State jumped on the board in the 54
th minute of the match off a crafty kick from Prondzinski. The forward fired a shot off a blocked scoring attempt, finding the back of the net to put the Bears up 1-0 with 36 minutes remaining.

The Red Wolves answered back, however, after A-State's Dana O'Boye evened the score off a penalty kick in the 79
th minute. With five minutes remaining in the match, O'Boye scored her second goal of the night off another penalty kick, giving the Red Wolves a 2-1 advantage.

Mary Disidore attempted to tie up the match but her shot sailed high – resulting in a 2-1 loss for the Bears. Freshman
Kaitlin Maxwell spent 90 minutes on the pitch as the MSU goalkeeper, racking up five saves in her first collegiate appearance. Disidore was the other Bear to record a full 90 minutes, tallying two shots in the opening contest.
