The Missouri State men's golf team is in fourth place after 36 holes at the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Lemont, Ill. The Bears shot 301-305--606 Monday (Apr. 24) at the Dubsdread Course at Cog Hill, a par 72, 7155-yard layout that's hosted numerous PGA Tour events.
While the Bears face an uphill climb in the team race, trailing leader Wichita State by 18 shots, sophomore
Jack Knoesel is in the middle of the medalist race. The Columbia, Mo., native shot 70-76--146 and is tied for third, just a shot behind co-leaders Grant Bennett of Wichita State and Trent Wallace of Illinois State, who both carded 145 totals Monday.
Sophomore
Brad Carpenter is second for MSU and tied for 13th overall after posting 76-75--151, while just a stroke separates freshman
Lukas McCalla and sophomore
Kory Franks. McCalla carded 77-79--156 and Franks had 78-79--157. Sophomore
Adam Fisher got off to a rough start, shooting 84 in the morning round, but rebounded with 75 in the afternoon. His 159 total has him tied for 39th.
WSU has a one-shot edge on Illinois State, 588-589, with Northern Iowa at 599. Then come the Bears, followed by Bradley (610), Evansville (615), Southern Illinois and Drake (619), and Loyola (624).
Tuesday's final-round action begins at 8 a.m. for the Bears off the no. 1 tee.
