COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Missouri State's softball team split two games here Saturday on the second day of the Texas A&M Invitational. The Bears fell 8-2 to nationally-ranked Texas A&M and then bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Stephen F. Austin in game two.

After splitting two games Friday, the Bears stand at 2-2 for the tournament and wrap up the event against New Mexico at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Texas A&M 8, Missouri State 2

The Bears led early against the No. 17/19 Aggies (9-0), but the tourney hosts used a five-run third inning to propel it to an 8-2 win.

After a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the first by Texas A&M's Tori Vidales, the Bears responded with a solid, fundamental rally in the top of the second.

Madison Jones led the inning off with a 3-2 walk before
Elena Gambill moved her to second with a hit to right. Darrian Frost then single to right on an 0-2 pitch to drive home MSU's first run of the game.
Olivia Roark moved Gambill and pinch-runner
Kyana Mason into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, and then
Erika Velasquez Zimmer drove Gambill home with a sac fly to center to put the Bears up 2-1.

The Aggies responded with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the second to tie the game and then exploded with five runs in the bottom of the third. Samantha Show singled home a run before Kristen Kuyos blasted a three-run homer in the inning.
Erin Griesbauer came in relief for the Bears to put out the fire, but not before an RBI single by Vidales made it a 7-2 game.

Six different MSU batters collected hits and limited A&M starter Samantha Show's line to just two strikeouts on the afternoon. Griesbauer pitched 4.0 innings in relief without an earned run for the Bears (3-5).

The Bears (4-5) took advantage of a pair of early mishaps by Stephen F. Austin and rode the arm of
Kaitlin Beason to a 2-0 victory over Stephen F. Austin (2-7).

Missouri State drew first blood in the top of the third, capitalizing on two Lady Jacks' errors to score
Olivia Roark who reached based via error with one out.

Elena Gambill made it a 2-0 game in the fourth with a two-out double to left that scored
Madison Jones.
Â
Roark finished with two of MSU's five hits with
Bethany Sullinger accounting for a game-high five assists at third base.
Â
Beason (2-2) allowed just three hits in the shutout victory while striking out three and walking one.
