McPike, James Highlight Bears Indoor Track & Field Opener

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Missouri State track and field team combined for three personal bests and 14 top-five performances at the indoor season opener on Saturday. Brittany McPike and Jamilah James earned first place accolades in their respective events.

McPike earned two top five placings in the meet including first place in the weight throw, with a personal best 16.43-meter toss. McPike also earned third place in the shot put after recording a 12.42m throw.

James, in her first event as a Bear, earned first place in the triple jump with a 12.31-meter leap. James also took home second place in the long jump by marking a 5.77m bound.

Daijah Heron also earned two top five placings Saturday afternoon. Heron marked third place in the triple jump (11.47m) and forth in long jump (5.64m).

On the track, Divina Henry paced the Bears, finishing fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.36) before clocking a second place finish of 57.25 in the 400-meter dash. Henry also ran the leadoff leg of the fifth place 4X400m relay team who ran the 1,600 meters in 3:54.54.

Missouri State will continue the indoor season next week at the Missouri Holiday Opener (Dec. 8) in Columbia, Mo. at the Hearnes Center.
