AMES, Iowa – The Missouri State women's cross country team finished in 20th place, marking five new personal records and four top-150 finishes, at the 2017 NCAA Midwest Regional Friday morning.
The six-kilometer meet was held at the ISU Cross Country Course in Ames, Iowa.
As a team, MSU improved their finish by 10 positions from last year's NCAA regional and recorded the best finish since 2011.
"I couldn't be happier with today's result," MSU head coach
Jordan Fife said. "We've struggled at the region meet for a few years and it was great to break that trend."
Senior
Jessica Allen paced the Bears to finish in 24th place overall out of 225 runners. Allen's 20:47.8 6K time earned her All-Region honors, first for MSU since 2010, a new personal best time and the third fastest 6K in school history.
"Jessi competed tough against some of the best runners in the country," Fife said. "Finishing her cross country career with an All-Region performance is a perfect ending"
Also establishing a new career best and the sixth-fastest 6K in MSU history was redshirt freshman
Grace Breiten. She marked a 63rd place finish at a 21:21.5 pace.
Erica Wollmering finished the meet in 118th place setting a 21:55.9 6K time, the 17th-quickest time in program history and a new PR.
Paityn Howat (22:16.8),
Jordyn Capra (22:16.8) and
Madeline Saville (23:17.3) all marked new personal top 6K times finishing 139, 153 and 202 respectively.
"The entire team ran extremely tough in very cold conditions," Fife said. "We've set ourselves up well moving forward to continue improving each year."
