NORMAL, Ill. – The Missouri State women's tennis team battled, but fell short on the final day of the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Individual Championship Monday.
In the Flight 3 singles championship match, junior
Phoebe Boeschen fell 6-4, 6-4 to Drake's Joely Lomas for the Bears' third runner-up singles finish in as many seasons. Boeschen's three singles second-place mark is the highest flight since Miranda Poile finished second in Flight 5 singles in 2015. Sophomore
Alexia Meyer collected a silver medal in 2016 in the Flight 6 singles.
Sophomore
Alye Darter was unable to get past Evansville's Diana Tkachenko, dropping a 6-2, 6-2 decision in the Flight 1 singles third-place match.
Senior
Abbey Belote fell 6-1, 6-1 to Evansville's Marie Kapelevich in Flight 7 singles third-place action.
Darter and freshman
Ellie Burger fell in a tough fifth-place battle in Flight 1 doubles, 8-7 (7-3), to Stony Brook's Ester Chikvashvili and Maria Ribeiro.
