TULSA, Okla. – The Missouri State men's soccer team earned its sixth straight win Tuesday with a 1-0 shutout victory over Oral Roberts. The Bears improved to 7-2-1 with their fifth straight shutout.
"Big road win for the guys," MSU head coach Jon Leamy said. "To go on the road and pick up points against a really good ORU team. We played ORU a couple weeks ago, so getting a second win is big."
Freshman Josh Dolling headed in the game winning goal at the 64:23 mark, netting the score off an assist from Connor Langan. The ball came off of a high cross from the right side of the field to Dolling who scored in the left center of the goal for his second score of the season.
Offensively, the Bears got off eight total shots with five shots on goal. Stuart Wilkin, Conor Ingram and Dolling led the way with two shots each.
The Golden Eagles got off 16 shots during the match with eight on goal. 12 of the 16 shots came in the second half.
MSU senior goalkeeper Liam Priestley held up his seventh shutout of the season and fifth consecutive. Priestley has recorded 21 shutouts in his career, which ties him for third overall in Missouri State history. Priestly recorded eight saves in the game, tying a career high he set earlier this season at Air Force.
Priestley made back to back impressive and timely saves in the 47th minute of the match. A hand ball was called in the box that resulted in a penalty kick for ORU. Santiago Riveros lined up for the Golden Eagles, but Priestley dived to his left to make the save. The keeper kept ORU out of goal almost immediately after by saving a shot attempt from Junior Chavez.
"We're going to get home and get back to work," Leamy said. "We had some big plays with Liam blocking the penally kick and Josh getting the header. It was a big win, but we're going to get back to work and prepare for conference play again."
The Bears (3-0 MVC) will travel to Bradley (2-0-1) Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. to continue conference play before coming home to take on Drake Saturday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m.
