SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State's women's cross country team is set to host the Missouri Valley Conference Championship for the first time since 2008.
The Bears will compete in the five-kilometer championship at the Springfield Underground, starting at 11:30 a.m. The men's eight-kilometer race will proceed the women at 10:30 a.m.
The Bears will face off against the other nine league foes, including Bradley, Loyola and Northern Iowa who are all ranked in the USTFCCCA Midwest regional top-15. MSU is picked to finish sixth in the pre-championship coaches poll, which is topped by Bradley.
The Bears have been led this season by senior
Jessica Allen, who comes in to the race with the fastest 5K in the conference by over 10 seconds (17:06.7) that she marked earlier this season at Joplin. Her 5K personal best also sits as the second fastest 5K in school history.
Redshirt freshman
Grace Breiten marks the seventh fastest 5K time in the conference this season (17:58.93) during her first year running for the Bears. Her career best was marked at the Chile Pepper Festival in September. Junior
Jordyn Capra paces the ninth best time in the conference with an 18:07.2 also marked at Arkansas.
After the league championship, Missouri State will turn its attention to the NCAA Regional on Nov. 10 in Ames, Iowa.
