Missouri State (14-7, 5-3 MVC) sits alone in third place in the MVC standings as the teams hit the midway point in the league schedule on Tuesday. The Bears entertain a high-flying Drake team that is 4-4 in the MVC standings and in search of its first win in Springfield since 2001.

Series History
Missouri State leads the all-time series against Drake, 42-12, including all three meetings last season and a 24-1 all-time record in Springfield (8-0 at JQH) against DU.

Dequon Miller scored 23 points and Chris Kendrix added 14 to help MSU to a 79-70 win in Des Moines on Jan. 20. MSU then rolled to a 61-52 win at JQH Arena on Feb. 24 behind 17 points from Camyn Boone and a double-double from Jarred Dixon with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bears then claimed a 69-67 win in St. Louis in the opening round of the MVC Tournament on March 3. Kendrix posted 21 points and Ryan Kreklow scored 13 behind three 3-pointers, while the team dropped in 10 threes in the first-round win. Miller added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the victory.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Jeff Rutter (Winona State, 1988) assumed coaching duties at Drake on Dec. 6 after three-and-a-half years as assistant coach. He is 5-7 as head coach at Drake with 4 starters back from a 7-24 team
that was 2-16 (10th) in the Valley last season.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs is junior Reed Timmer (G, 6-1) and sophomore Billy Wampler (F, 6-6). Timmer is averaging 16.4 points with 40 3-pointers, while Wampler is scoring 11.0 points with 47 threes.

  • Missouri State is now 100-43 (.699) all-time at JQH Arena, including an 10-2 record at The Q this season.
  • Alize Johnson (Jr., Williamsport, Pa.) is MVC Newcomer of the Week for the fifth time and leads the MVC with 10.7 rebounds per game.
