MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Missouri State men's soccer team (1-1) took its first road trip of the season to the University of Memphis where the Tigers topped the Bears, 2-0, on Sunday (Sept. 4).
In the opening seconds of the match, MSU's
Mike Lightbourne started the momentum for the Bears, taking a shot at Memphis' goalkeeper, Jake Leeker. Unable to score, Missouri State was forced to transition on defense but was unable to stop Memphis' Hector Cantele from punching one in past MSU's keeper,
Liam Priestley. The second goal came in the 51
st minute of the match when Memphis' Jackson Morse found himself with the ball at his feet as he was able to pop it up and over Priestley's head.
The Bears would finish the first half with the 5-4 shot advantage before finishing the match with 10 shots over the Tigers' nine.

Jordy Robins tallied two shots apiece while

Jake Laird,
James Routledge,
Conor Ingram,
Emmerich Hoegg and
Tyler Swanner added to the Missouri State shot count with a single shot each.
For the second-consecutive year, the Bears will travel to the TLC Plumbing and Utility Invitational, hosted by New Mexico, where Missouri State will face Grand Canyon (Sept. 9) and CSU Bakersfield (Sept. 11) for the first time in program history.
