The Missouri State men's golf team is eighth of 13 teams after the first day of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate in Choudrant, La., hosted by Louisiana Tech. The Bears shot 296-295--591 in Monday's (Sept. 19) opening 36 holes at the par 72, 7070-yard Squire Creek Golf Club.
Louisiana Monroe posted 573 to take a one-stroke lead over Central Arkansas and a five-shot advantage over Lamar. Houston Baptist and Southern Mississippi are tied for fourth at 580, followed by Western Kentucky (584), Southeastern Louisiana (590), the Bears, Louisiana Tech (597) and Stephen F. Austin (598) rounding out the top 10.
Freshman
Christopher Obert led the way for MSU, shooting 74-72--146 to place him in a tie for 21st place in his first collegiate tournament. Sophomores
Adam Fisher and
Jack Knoesel are tied for 29th with 148 totals; Fisher shot 74-74, while Knoesel had 73-75. Sophomore
Brad Carpenter and freshman
Lukas McCalla each posted 155 totals after 36 holes. Carpenter tallied 75-80, while McCalla had 81-74.
Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
