SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State's women's cross country team will return to action Saturday morning when the Bears join a 21-team field at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin for a five-kilometer competition.
Â
The race at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course on the Missouri Southern State University campus looks to provide a solid test for the Bears who enter their second competition of the 2016 season hungry for a good performance.
Â
"Our first meet of the season in St. Louis wasn't quite what we expected, but we have shown a lot of improvement with our workouts since then, and I like the way we look going into the weekend," said third-year MSU head coach
Jordan Fife. "I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do on a fast and familiar course."
Â
Missouri State opened the season on Sept. 2 at the Gabby Reuveni Early Bird Meet at Forest Park in St. Louis. The Bears landed three individual runners in the top 15 of the 123- runner field, but fell short of team expectations in the debut performance.
Â
