SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Missouri State field hockey team travels to Athens, Ohio, to open up the regular season with two matches against Saint Francis University on Sunday, Aug. 28-29. Sunday's match is slated for 10 a.m. and Monday's match is set to begin at 11 a.m. at Pruitt Field.

- Missouri State looks to improve in the 2016 season, after finishing the 2015 season with a 6-12 overall record and a 3-3 record in Mid-American Conference play. Before opening up the season, the Bears traveled to St. Louis to take on the Saint Louis Billikens in an exhibition match. In regulation play, the Bears fell short 2-1 but the Bears proceeded to move ahead of the Billikens 8-6 after an overtime and penalty-shot period.
- Last season, junior Andrea Soler Codina scored three goals and made one assist, totaling seven points. Her three goals tied for second on the team while her seven points earned her a fourth place ranking on the 2015 squad, the highest of all the returning 2016 Bears.
- In the 2015 season, sophomore Emily Tran started all 18 games putting in the most minutes by any Bear (1121) and also scored one goal. Senior Brynne Satre led the Bears with three defensive saves last season.
- Head coach Catherine Ostoich enters her first season at the helm for the Bears.

- The Red Flash rounded out the 2015 season with a 10-7 overall record and going an even 4-4 in Atlantic-10 Conference play. Saint Francis opens up the regular season against MAC Conference foe Ohio on Friday, Aug. 26 at Pruitt field in Athens, Ohio.
