
Field Hockey Bears Earn NFHCA Academic Honors

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Eleven Missouri State student-athletes were named to the 2016 Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad, announced by the NFHCA on Wednesday, March 15.

Along with National Academic Squad recognition, three Bears – Megan Drew, Feli Heinzel and Paige Pashea – earned Scholar of Distinction honors as well.

To be named to the National Academic Squad, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year. Scholars of Distinction have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or greater during the 2016 fall semester.

Drew (San Diego, Calif.), Brynne Satre (Davis, Calif.) and Liz Young (San Diego, Calif.) capped off their collegiate careers with National Academic Squad honors, representing Missouri State's senior class. Satre earned her fifth consecutive NFHCA academic recognition while Young picked up her second. Now a four-time National Academic Squad and Scholar of Distinction, Drew highlighted the 2016 squad with a perfect 4.00 GPA.

Three-time honorees, Andrea Soler Codina (Terrassa, Spain) and Paige Pashea (Edwardsville, Ill.) were also named to the list. Majoring in psychology and criminology, Pashea earned the first Scholar of Distinction recognition of her career after posting a 3.90 GPA during the fall semester.

Receiving their second selections to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, junior Bianca Mills (Huntington Beach, Calif.) along with sophomores Emily Tran (San Diego, Calif.) and Heinzel (Seeheim-Jugenheim, Germany) all posted a GPA of 3.30 or higher. Newcomers Marina Ellison (Duncan, B.C., Canada), Kathryn Mirbaha (St. Louis, Mo.) and Lizzie Slinkard were also named to the list of recipients. Heinzel was the final Bear to earn Scholar of Distinction recognition, posting a perfect 4.0 GPA during the 2016 fall season.
