ST. LOUIS - Missouri State senior Brik Brauburger has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team in men's golf, the league announced Monday.
Brauburger is part of a group of 11 Valley golfers, including seven on the first team, recognized by league sports information directors for their accomplishments in the classroom and on the course.
A native of Bella Vista, Ark., Brauburger sports a 3.50 grade-point average while majoring in Finance. He finished the season ranked eighth in the league in scoring average at 74.20 and finished seventh at the MVC Championship last month after shooting 78-70-73--221. Last fall, Brauburger set the school 54-hole scoring mark by firing 68-69-70--207 and finishing sixth at the Derek Dolenc Invitational. He also placed fifth at the Coyote Classic in the fall, helping lead the Bears to the team title, and 14th at the season-opening Weibring Intercollegiate.
He is a five-time dean's list and seven-time athletic director's honor roll selection, and is the 13th men's golfer all-time to make the Valley Scholar-Athlete First Team.
Brauburger joined Grant Bennett and Alec Heinen (Wichita State), Lyle Burns and Bobby Jacobs (Bradley), Will Knights (Evansville) and Drew Novara (Southern Illinois) on the first team.
Honorable-mention honors went to Jacob Bishop and Conrad Walcher (Wichita State), and Garret Buckley and PJ Riner (Loyola).
To qualify for consideration for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team, players must have a minimum 3.20 grade-point average and be a key contributor. The team is voted on each year by the league's 10 sports information directors.
