Missouri State (10-4, 1-0 MVC) returns to JQH Arena on Saturday morning for its 2016-17 MVC home opener against the Indiana State Sycamores (6-7, 0-1).

Series History
The Bears and Sycamores have split the regular-season series each of the last seven seasons, and Missouri State owns a 41-25 all-time series lead. MSU is also 28-5 in all games played in Springfield, including a 6-2 mark at JQH Arena.
Last season, the Sycamores overcame a 12-point deficit at home to score a 68-59 win in Terre Haute on Jan. 27. Khristian Smith scored 20 points for ISU -- which was 19-of-23 at the line. MSU was led by
Jarred Dixon with 19 points in a starting role, while
Dequon Miller scored 12.
In the rematch in Springfield,
Camyn Boone scored 30 ponts, while
Chris Kendrix and Miller scored 19 apiece to lead MSU to an 89-85 overtime win at JQH. The Bears overcame a four-point deficit in OT but got two late free throws from Kendrix to ice the win and complete the comeback. Devonte Brown scored 26 for ISU with Brenton Scott adding 19.
Scouting the Sycamores
Seventh-year head coach Greg Lansing has seven lettermen and three starters back from a 15-17 club that was 8-10 and tied with MSU for sixth in the MVC standings.
Leading the way for ISU is junior Brenton Scott who averages 19.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game with 31 treys. Senior Everett Clemons is also posting 5.4 rebounds per game for the Sycamores and firing at a .580 clip from the field with 26 steals.
The Ten Count
- MSU is 23-3 in Missouri Valley Conference home openers, including a 7-1 mark at JQH Arena. Paul Lusk is 5-0 in league home openers and is 7-1 at home this season. Lusk is also seeking his 40th MVC victory.
- Since Dec. 10, Obediah Church (So., Springfield, Ill.) has converted 24-of-30 (.800) field goal attempts and has blocked a shot in every game this season -- 21 straight games overall. He ranks 2nd in the MVC in FG percentage (.720) and leads the Valley (22nd nationally) in blocked shots per game (2.5).
- The Bears have led at the half in 12 of 14 games (10-2) and are 62-19 under Lusk when taking the lead into the break.
- Alize Johnson (Jr., Williamsport, Pa.) leads the MVC with 9.3 rebounds per game and is coming off his third MVC Newcomer of the Week honor as well as All-Tournament honors at the Las Vegas Classic.
- MSU and Indiana State have split the regular-season series each of the last seven seasons. The Bears are 6-2 against the Sycamores all-time at JQH Arena and have won four straight meetings aginst ISU at home.
- Eleven MSU players are averaging 10.5 minutes per game. MSU's bench has outscored its opponents' reserves in all 14 games and holds a 423-160 scoring edge from the pine. Bears' backups are collectively averaging 30.2 ppg.
- Ryan Kreklow (So., Columbia, Mo.) is averaging 12.4 points per game over the last 5 ball games -- all off the bench -- including four double-figure scoring contests. He also has 12 3-pointers in that span (2.4 per game).
- Led by Kreklow (24) and Dequon Miller (Sr., Charleston, W.Va.) (23), seven different Missouri State players have knocked down ten or more 3-pointers so far this season.
- With 71 blocked shots, Tyler McCullough (Sr. Fayetteville, Ark.) needs 1 more to move into MSU's career top 10.
