SPRINGFIELD -- The Missouri State tennis team will compete in the first Missouri Valley Conference championship event of the 2016-17 academic year this weekend, as seven Bears will vie for titles at the MVC Individual Championship, Oct. 8-10 at Wesselman Tennis Center in Evansville, Ind.

Play begins Saturday at 9 a.m. with the first round in each of the three double flights before seven flights of singles get underway. The schedule repeats itself Sunday morning as winner's bracket and back draw play continues, and the tournament concludes with doubles finals at 9 a.m. Monday followed by championship and third-place matches in singles.

"The MVC Individual Championship is one we look forward to every fall," said head coach Mallory Weber, whose team is coming off a pair of dual victories over Tennessee State last week. "There is a great competitive atmosphere because the teams know each other so well and want to set the tone for what is to come in the spring. I'm looking forward to seeing our progress in both singles and doubles against tough competition."

The Bears have two remaining fall events after the MVC meet, with the ITA Regional Championships scheduled for Oct. 13-16 in Minneapolis, and the MSU Fall Tournament slated for Oct. 28-29.
