Final Results

DICKSON, Tenn. – Missouri State was able to hold off late-charging Mercer to claim top honors here Tuesday in the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate men's golf tournament. Sophomore Kory Franks led the Bears' individual efforts, tying for runner-up honors with an even-par 216 after 54 holes of play.

The Bears led wire to wire after carding an impressive opening-round 286 on Monday. Runner-up Mercer (293-293-296--882) gained ground in the second and third rounds, but MSU (286-294-297--877) was able to hold them off and cruise to a five-stroke victory.  UT Martin (884) was third, ahead of Murray State (895), Tennessee Tech (895) and host Austin Peay (905) in the 10-team field.

Franks finished three strokes behind individual medalist Hunter Richardson of UT Martin who tallied 73-71-75--219 on the Greystone Golf Club course. The MSU sophomore carded 71-72-73--216 to lead the championship team, while classmate Jack Knoesel (70-75-73--218) tied for fifth place.

Freshman Lukas McCalla (73-74-74--221) and sophomore Adam Fisher (72-73-77--222) finished 11th and 14th, respectively, while Brad Carpenter (76-75-82--233) was 44th in the field of 60 competitors.

Missouri State's fall slate saw the Bears win two of their five events, including the Derek Dolenc Invitational at SIU Edwardsville, Sept. 26-27. The young Bears have no seniors and just two juniors on the 2016-17 roster.
