Men’s Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw with Drake

Box Score | Season Stats

SPRINGFIELD – Despite playing a man down for nearly 58 minutes, the Missouri State men's soccer team (7-4-2, 3-1-1 MVC) battled to a 1-1 double-overtime draw with the Drake Bulldogs (4-8-1, 1-3-1 MVC) at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 15).

The first shot of the night came in the seventh minute of the match, as Drake's Steven Enna sent the ball wide of the goal. In the ninth minute of the match, the Bulldogs were called for a hand ball in the box, setting up the first penalty kick of the season for the Bears. MSU's Emmerich Hoegg took the kick, but Drake's goalkeeper, Darrin MacLoed, was able to read the shot and jumped on top to make the save.

In the 19th minute of the match, MSU's Phil Woods took a corner kick for the Bears, sending the ball into the middle of the box. Robbie Oslica leapt over the Bulldog defenders to head in his third goal of the season to give the Bears the 1-0 advantage.

With two minutes left in the first half, the Bulldogs were able to equalize, as Drake's Scott Miselhorn netted his first goal of the season.

In the 52nd minute of the match, momentum changed in favor of the Bulldogs when MSU's Jack Griffin was given a red card, forcing the Bears to play with a man down. Drake would go on to outshoot Missouri State, 10-3, in the final 58 minutes of the match.

In the 88th minute of the match, Drake's James Wypych fired a shot from 15-yards out, hitting the near-side post and bouncing in front of the goal to the far side and out-of-bounds.

The only shot for the Bears in either overtime period came from Jake Buckle in the 96th minute of action, when the sophomore took a free kick after a Bulldog foul, sending the ball just high of the cross bar.

Drake took four shots in the last 10 minutes of the match, as MSU goalkeeper, Liam Priestley, grabbed his fifth save of the night in the final minute. Tonight's match marked the second time that the junior keeper has made five or more saves in a single match this season.

Missouri State will have a week off before traveling to league-leading Loyola on Saturday (Oct. 22). The match-up between the Bears and the Ramblers is set to kick off at 7 p.m.
