JOPLIN, Mo. - The Missouri State cross country team competed in its second meet of the season Saturday, finishing 2nd place among Division I schools at the Missouri Southern Stampede.

Senior Cindy Forde led the pack of Bears throughout the entire race, finishing 23rd overall (8th in Division I) with a time of 18:18.95, which broke her previous personal best of 19:12.80 that she recorded in October 2014. Junior Savannah Beaver and senior Tenaly Smith joined teammate Forde and ran personal bests as well. Smith broke her personal best by two-tenths of a second (19:30.09, 12th in Division I). All of freshman that competed today set college personal bests or all-time bests.

All Bears that competed in today's race, who also competed at the Bob Timmons Classic earlier this season, ran faster times than they did in the season opener at Kansas and helped placed Missouri State second among Division I schools in today's event trailing only Arkansas. Head coach Jordan Fife is impressed with the improvements showcased at the race today.

"The majority of the team was able to race at a level where our workouts have been for several weeks. It was rewarding for the ladies to put up those times and we will watch the confidence continue to grow as we press on with the rest of the season."

Behind Forde was freshman Jade Raynor, who finished with a time of 18:41.65 which was nearly two minutes faster than her time at the Bob Timmons Classic. Jessica Allen (18:49.57), Beaver (19:10.11), Smith (19:30.09), Alyson Jones (19:40.20), and Renae Buschling (19:51.79) all finished the race in less than 20 minutes.

The top performer of the race was Kelsey Bruce of Dallas Baptist, who finished with a time of 16:47.89. On the Division I side, Sydney Brown of Arkansas took the crown with a time of 17:08.17.

The Bears will two weeks to prepare for their third meet of the season at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 10:20 a.m.
