Sept. 11, 2015
Schedule
The Missouri State men's golf team opens its 2015-16 season Sunday (Sept. 13) at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal, Ill. The tournament, fittingly, will be played at the Weibring Golf Course on the Illinois State University campus, a par 71, 6915-yard layout.
The Bears are one of 17 teams that will tee off at 8 a.m. Sunday and Monday, playing 36 holes the first day and concluding with the final round Monday. In addition to the host Redbirds, the field also includes Missouri Valley Conference rivals Bradley, Drake, Evansville, Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois among others.
MSU enters the season led by three seniors -- Joey Johnson, Mitch Mather and Brik Brauburger -- and its lineup for the first tournament also will include sophomore Brian Rogers and freshman Adam Fisher.
Johnson and Mather, from nearby Ozark and Lebanon, respectively, have captured the last three Missouri Amateur titles between them. Johnson won in 2013 and '14 before losing in the final to Mather this summer.
Johnson is a two-time all-conference performer who finished fourth in the league in scoring average last season, while Mather was ninth in the Valley.
